NDTV Indian Of The Year
Hi,
NDTV has put up the following nominations for the NDVT Indian of the year award:
1. Ratan Tata 2. Sachin Tendulkar 3. Leander Paes 4. Kiran Desai 5. Indira Nooyi 6. Arvind Kejriwal 7. Chaman Lal Mattoo 8. Aishwarya Rai 9. Aamir Khan 10. Munnabhai
After going through the list I did not recognize one name - number 6 Arvind Kejriwal.......this is what I read of the gentleman on Wikipedia.....
Arvind Kejriwal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arvind Kejriwal is an Indian social activist and crusader for greater transparency in Government. He was awarded Ramon Magsaysay Emergent Leadership award in 2006 for activating India's Right to Information movement at grassroots and social activities to empower the poorest citizens to fight corruption by holding the government answerable to the people.
After graduating as a mechanical engineer from IIT Kharagpur in 1989, he joined the civil services in the Indian Revenue Service (1992). Here he soon realized that much of the corruption prevalent in government is owing to lack of transparency in the process. Even while in his official position, he started crusading against the corrupt practices. After several years on Extra-Ordinary Leave from the Government, he resigned his official post and now devotes full time to his work as the founder-head of Parivartan - a Delhi based citizens’ movement trying to ensure a just, transparent and accountable governance.
Initially, Arvind was instrumental in bringing in a number of changes to increase transparency in the Income Tax office. Together with Aruna Roy and others, he campaigned for the Right to Information Act, which was passed in 2005. In July 2006, he spearheaded an awareness campaign for RTI across India.
Dear readers his work is among that which is slowly but surely benefiting the entire nation. The corrupt officials who were getting away scott free have been made accountable.
If you feel Arvind Kejriwal's work stands out of all the nominations please vote for him, send the SMS as....... INDIA 6 to 6388

I wonder why NDTV has not thought it fit to add Swami Ramdev's name in the list. He went abroad this year and introduced more to Yoga and was even a special invitee to the UN. If Mr. Rattan Tata gobbled up companies for brand India, Swamiji gobbled up minds for spiritual India. They should jointly be declared as Indians of the Year, symbolizing India's rising material and spiritual wealth. Amd a special mention of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal too. All great men.
