RETURNING MEDALS BY THE MARTYRS' FAMILY MEMBERS JUSTIFIED
Protesting against the delay in carrying out the death sentence to MohammadAfzal Guru, families of eight security men who gave up their life defending thenation in the 2001 Parliament terror attack joined hands to return the gallantry medals they had received in honour of the slain personnel to the RashtrapatiBhavan.Caught in a fix, the Union Home Ministry had earlierwarned that returning of medals would be considered unconstitutional. If thesebrave men had not been there may be the terrorists had been able to blow the parliament. May be the Union Home Ministry can hang these families instead of hanging Afzal Guru?We boast of being a very honest nation butwhen it comes to proving it we become hostile.now what is the meaning of agallantry award when the real culprit is being treatd in a very soft manner . At the risk of sounding immodest i would like to say that if any politician hadbeen killed in that attack all the so-called leaders of this nation would uniteon the issue of punishing the culprit with the capital punishment.By returning the medals the family members of martyrs have atleast slapped on the face of a system which is neither rewarding the noble ones nor punishing theguilty. The departed souls must be regretting why did they sacrifice for thesake of the temple of democracy which is by and large becoming undemocratic. I whole heartedly invite your opinion on the question,Whatelse can family members of the valiant police personnel can do? Do they have anyother OPTION ?If government can not give them justice, will a medal beany meaningful to them? Martyrs had the courage to face bullets on their chest but their Government does not have courage to punish the man who masterminded the attack. I wonder whether the Govt. is wating for one more IC-814 like highjacking to release Mohd.Afzal Guru.Anything can happen in this country in the name of vote bank.

This is the least they could do to express their deep sense of anguish and revulsion at the ineptitude of the Govt. If you cannot uphold justice of the land and kneel timidly to a few insensible protests, then you have no moral right to touch the sacred tricolour much less unfurl it on the rampart of the red fort.

Tagore returned his knighthood in protest, and there are many precedents of honours being returned. Returning an honour bestowed is in no way unconstitutional. The depth to which these poliicians can sink is sickening. They are attending a function "honouring" the fallen heroes, unmindful of the fact that the families at that very moment are returning the medals at Rashtrapahi Bhavan.

Mark my words, the families returning the medals symbolise a curse upon the present UPA government. Now even Allah will not be able to save it.
