UNWRITTEN RULES
Dont meddle with religion, especially other people's religion. You may be a writer, painter or a cartoonist. If you do it once its ok, but dont repeat. We are living in highly charged times.A little spark can ignite whole worlds.Shivlinga worship, Khajuraho, Ajanta etc are hindu's past and tradition. Leave it at that. Dont bring it everytime controversy about obscenity crops up. It has become too cliche.Husain is very rich and he can live comfortably abroad. We all love his paintings and have sympathy for his lot at his age.We know that he is a gem of a person. To attribute motives to him is outrageous.Even Chandan Mitra knows it.Yet he should have heeded the warning notes.Artistic freedom is not absolute. Then why didnt he paint Madhuri without clothes? He knows it will hurt a living Madhuri , a living daughter. He should have spared a living faith as well.

Absolute freedom to do anything is possible only in the mind. In social living, my freedom to swing my hands ends where your nose begins. Short of physical violence, all forms of expression should be allowed. M.F. Hussain has not hurt anybody physically nor have the Danish cartoonists. If we are psychologically hurt, the fault is with us, with our low tolerance level. The more spiritual we are, the less we would ever be psychologically hurt.
