Devil's advocate
I thoroughly enjoyed watching the interview of Mr. N. R. Narayana Murthy, founder chairman - mentor of Infosys, by Karan Thapar on CNN - IBN yesterday (7th Jan 2007) night.
Mr. Narayana Murthy came off as a balanced, reasoned, unassuming, compassionate, issues based, forward looking thinker with clear ideas and focus on ways of improving the lot of this great country of ours.
I feel that we need more such men with the vision, leadership qualities, business acumen to lead this country forward from where we are today - just reaching a stage of being poised after 60 years of independence, as TOI / Timesnow project us.
I am sure there is no quick fix for the vaccum in political leadership of this country. There are no short cuts to solve the numerous problems and bottlenecks.
But I suggest that the minimum that a person like our Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh can do at this juncture (by putting all his own acumen, standing and strength forcefully down) is to constitute an advisory council comprising of men of unimpeachable character, vision and interest in improving the lot of this country like Mr. Narayana Murthy, Mr. Ratan Tata, Mr. Rahul Bajaj and other like minded people and draw from their suggestions on matters of economic policy, labour reforms, growth strategies, empowerment of people etc.
